Air Leaks and Insulation
Before you invest in a new heater or air-conditioner, make sure your home is well sealed and insulated. The effects of air leaks can dramatically increase the use of your homes heater and air-conditioner (or, combined with passive solar heating and cooling, totally eliminate the need for heating and air-conditioning).
Make sure your home is properly insulated and all the cracks and gaps in walls, windows and doors are properly sealed. Seal recessed lights and fixtures. For helpful tips, see the following resources:
